's being removed from office, as a single side note. i mean, bill clinton went through -- he was keel hauled. >> yeah, yeah. >> this guy get a single side note. >> just a pesky asterisk. but, you know, politicians and presidents for years in washington have been using david petraeus as cover. if you can get underneath -- >> republicans said that name over and over. >> wrap yourself in the petraeus flag and you got immunity from almost anything. >> what is president obama worried about petraeus? >> i think it's -- i think he's being gracious now. i think maybe buyer's remorse, some people once you get into the details of this whacky situation, they're thinking maybe he should have stuck with him, maybe everything moved too fast, maybe he's -- he did what he did but maybe he's the victim -- >> before you jump to that, and i am -- the older i get the more leaning i get towards these -- >> meaning -- >> if it got out he had this affair with the reporter and also got out that the president knowing about it had kept him in office, what would that have been like? >> that would have been bad.
-- you won't do it again. >> tell the country that? >> tell the country. it's what bill clinton did. >> but he was impeached. >> under a little pressure. >> let's go to the latest developments in this. mrs. kelley, jill kelley, she's married, she was the one involved in being apparently -- she was scaring this other woman who was having the affair with petraeus. she complained to an fbi agent. this is where it became official. complained, jill kelley, complained to an fbi agent -- >> who was a friend of hers. >> who was being harassed. then she does this call. she called 911 one week complaining, that was jill kelley, tried to invoke diplomatic privilege to get the press off her lawn. let's listen to this. this is a little strange. >> i am an honorary consul-general, so i have inviolatability so they should not be to cross my property. i don't know if you want to get diplomatic protection involved as well? but it's against the law to cross my property. >> this is getting more kato kaling every day. >> that phone call replaced -- >> was she writing, claiming diplomatic immunity from
on the table. have real entitlement reform. on taxes it's as bill clinton said. it's simple math. spending is at 24% of gdp. taxes are at about 15% of gdp right now. even the most conservative member of congress only proposes to bring spending down to say 20% or even 19% of gdp. you still have a 4% to 5% gap. that represents hundreds of billions of dollars that has to be made up. even if you assume growth could get back to 3%, that won't make up the gap. so taxes have to be on the table. there's no way to get around that if you want to actually deal with the fiscal crisis that we have. and what is most heartening to me is to learn today that the president is willing to take this show on the road, to go out into the states and make the case and actually reinforce that mandate he has and make republicans realize that those that want to work with him will be rewarded as people who are trying to solve people, those that want to obstruct will pay a political praice that they will feel at election time. >> his opening act has got to be rick ross. these haters are not going to hold me back. some
it in their head this is big time. >> in 1997 after bill clinton got re-elected but before lewinsky, the republicans tried to do the same thing on chinese fund-raising. remember that? they spent the better part of a year trying to turn this into a huge scandal. there's actually a little more to that one than there is to this. this is just exploiting a tragedy for political purposes. >> and here is the great irony. john mccain, who seems like he's the big whistle-blower, going after susan rice yesterday, compare what he said about susan rice yesterday with what he said about another foreign policy expert, in this case condoleezza rice, back in 2005. here is mccain on susan rice. take a listen. >> susan rice should have known better, and if she didn't know better she's not qualified. she should have known better. i will do everything in my power to block her from being the united states secretary of state. >> okay. mortal sin, deal breaker, end of her career because john mccain said she had gotten the wrong brief and delivered the wrong brief. however, mccain had a very different reac
in america and they lost. >> and the math worked. >> stephanie: arithmetic and bill clinton and nate silver said. again, it reiterated the president, the republicans would have to agree to raise taxes on the wealthy is the first step in the budget deal that would prevent the fiscal cliff [ whatever ] >> stephanie: once again he's more partisan as they are. he said he would be open to tax reform and overhaul, but it's not going to close this deficit by itself. the republicans would have to agree to his top priority. he said what i'm not going to do is further tax cut for folks who don't need it. as he said this was the centerpiece of the campaign. it's not like this didn't come up. >> it should not be a shocked to anybody. >> stephanie: according to a pew pole. [ world news ] more voters would blame republicans than obama if the two side failed to compromise before the fiscal cliff. it's political checkers. i was screaming when he compromised last time. but he was in a different position. now he's taking it to them again and even after an election they don't get it. he saidthere are stakes i
